Where we started…
I’m Matt, owner of MADHUNTS Adventures! I’ve been deer hunting since the early 1980s. I found saddle hunting on YouTube and loved the mobility it offers. After hunting out of climbing stands for so many years, the fact that I could hunt out of a saddle in essentially any tree…with branches or slick, curved or straight trees was a huge draw for me. MADHUNTS Adventures was started out of a desire to bring real, fair-chase videos of my failures and successes while hunting out of a DIY saddle on public land.
From early in my saddle hunting journey, I realized that finding good, detailed information on saddles was very difficult. I also couldn’t find a saddle in any big box stores to get firsthand knowledge. Searching out the many different saddles and all of the needed gear was a time-consuming and daunting task, and any information I could find was scattered in multiple locations. I decided to purchase five popular saddles and put them to the test which resulted in the Ultimate Saddle Review. With over 113,000 views to date, hundreds of questions received, and requests from countless hunters to review specific saddles, MADHUNTS Adventures has become the top independent saddle review channel.
Where we’re going…
As I near my 30th saddle review, I have become very knowledgeable on the features offered by the various saddle manufacturers. My reviews are done systematically, and they cover everything offered on the specific saddle that is being reviewed. I then put the saddle to the test in a hunting-like scenario, as I hike to a tree and spend a minimum of one hour in the saddle. The field test portion of the review primarily focuses on functionality and comfort. In addition to the reviews on my channel, I also provide a saddle comparison spreadsheet so that you too can make an educated decision on your first or next saddle purchase.
In 2021, I resigned from my career in law enforcement due to health issues. My wife and I became full-time RVers, and we travel the country and work at campgrounds in various locations across the U.S. I receive questions about saddle recommendations and requests for additional saddle reviews on a regular basis. With awareness and interest in saddle hunting increasing, coupled with consistent requests for independent reviews, we are maximizing our mobile lifestyle and bringing some VERY exciting things to the hunting community in 2023!
